Component Manipulation

Component Manipulation

clip_image001

Path: Edit | Move | Manipulate clip_image002

Use this to ...

  • Move a component by clicking and dragging it, or rotate it using the mouse.

Key Points

  • Manipulate is useful because you can activate With respect to constraints allowing you to move only in the under-constrained direction of the component(s).

Prerequisites

  • You should be in the Assembly Design workbench.

Process: Translating a Component Along an Axis

1. Select Edit | Move | Manipulate. The Manipulation Parameters dialog displays.

clip_image003

2. Click one of the icons in the top row of the dialog to select a translation axis.

clip_image004

Your selection displays at the top of the dialog.

clip_image005

3. If required, activate With respect to constraints.

4. In the Graphics window, pick the component and drag it to a new position.

Process: Translating a Component Along a Plane

1. Select Edit | Move | Manipulate. The Manipulation Parameters dialog displays.

clip_image003[1]

2. Click one of the icons in the middle row of the dialog to select a translation plane.

clip_image006

Your selection displays at the top of the dialog.

clip_image007

3. If required, activate With respect to constraints.

4. In the Graphics window, pick the component and drag it to a new position.

Process: Rotating a Component Around an Axis

1. Select Edit | Move | Manipulate. The Manipulation Parameters dialog displays.

clip_image008

2. Click one of the icons in the bottom row of the dialog to select a rotation axis.

clip_image009

Your selection displays at the top of the dialog.

clip_image010

3. If required, activate With respect to constraints.

4. In the Graphics window, pick the component and drag it to a new position.

Options

Manipulation Parameters Dialog

Allows you to define translations and rotations by selecting a command from the dialog. The icon you click displays at the top of the dialog with a description beside it.

clip_image005[1]

Drag Along X Axis
clip_image012
Allows you to drag the component in the X direction.

Drag Along Y Axis
clip_image013
Allows you to drag the component in the Y direction.

Drag Along Z Axis
clip_image014
Allows you to drag the component in the Z direction.

Drag Along Any Axis
clip_image015
Allows you to drag the component in any direction. You must first select a geometric element before defining an axis direction.

Drag Along XY Plane
clip_image016
Allows you to drag the component along the XY plane.

Drag Along YZ Plane
clip_image017
Allows you to drag the component along the YZ plane.

Drag Along XZ Plane
clip_image018
Allows you to drag the component along the XZ plane.

Drag Along Any Plane
clip_image019
Allows you to drag the component along any plane. You must first select a planar element before defining the translation plane.

Drag Around X Axis
clip_image020
Allows you to drag the component about the X-axis.

Drag Around Y Axis
clip_image021
Allows you to drag the component about the Y-axis.

Drag Around Z Axis
clip_image022
Allows you to drag the component about the Z-axis.

Drag Around Any Axis
clip_image023
Allows you to drag the component about any axis. You must first select a geometric element before defining a rotation axis.

With Respect to Constraints

Restricts you to moving the component in any remaining degrees of freedom that are not controlled by constraints. Activating this option will only let you move the component in a direction that is not already constrained.
